Location |
|
Matangi is a 240 acre privately owned island situated in Fiji’s breathtaking Northern group of islands in the South Pacific. Matangi Island Resort is owned and operated by us, the Douglas family. We are 5th generation Fijians of Scottish descent and are intimately connected with our land, culture and people.
In 1986 we decided to share our private Fiji island home with the rest of the world, and since then, have continued to welcome up to 1000 guests per year at our exclusive Fijian island retreat. Many of our guests have continued to return again and again, making Matangi their own intimate Fijian home in paradise.

Accommodation |
|
The island offers a total of 11 beachfront bungalows (known in Fijian as Bures) and 3 Tree House suites, all boasting gorgeous views across the Tasman Straits and to our neighbouring islands. All of our accommodation features the most modern of amenities, nestled amongst a traditional Fijian setting.
There is a central resort area, where our dining bure and activities center are nestled within the tropical foliage. From each bure, it is a short walk to the beach, dining or activities center, but far enough from each other to provide the privacy you desire.
The bures, each constructed in typical Fijian style, are nestled under swaying South Pacific palm trees and along the white sand beaches of this former plantation island. Our Fiji resort has the appearance of a nicely groomed Fijian village. However, we provide the amenities of a first class luxury Fiji hotel-where shoes are optional!
Each bure is built approximately 20 metres from our beach’s high water mark and are well spaced apart ensuring ample privacy amongst our lush tropical gardens. All of the resorts facilities are within walking distance of each other - you will not find any motorised vehicles on Matangi - other than a tractor and our wheelbarrow brigade.
Each bure features a spacious sleeping and living areas, king sized beds, day bed, ceiling fans, mini bar, ensuite bathroom facilities and private veranda. Your maid will service your bure daily, launder your clothes, replenish your towel supply and turn down your sheets at night.

Dining & Entertainment |
|
The traditional Fijian Lali drum announces the meal service (just in case you are too relaxed or too busy to notice). Soon you will become accustomed to the timing of your meals not by your watch, but to the beat of a drum. All of your meals are included in the tariff.
Meals are served from our Dining Bure or Deck which sits over the water. Romantic dinners and picnics can also be arranged at no extra cost. Our cuisine offers an excellent variety with special dietary needs catered for. As there is no other restaurant or cooking facility on the island, we have an all inclusive meal/accommodation plan which provides 3 daily meals along with snacks.

Being its own private island, Matangi offers a multitude of activities including scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, wind surfing, water skiing and fishing. The island is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers, providing two trails around the island which can be explored.
